It was a tough year (again) to be a Mets fan. The promise of the first half was frittered away almost immediately in the second. It was hard to watch. At least they still have the best local broadcast team in baseball. These annual highlight videos of the guys goofing off are fun, but I’d rather have a compilation of great plays that lead to a playoff berth…
It’s still fun to cook up a new-to-me cocktail for podcast recording but I struggle sometimes with inspiration. Googling for cocktails kind of sucks.
That the is The Princeton, according to this great 1971 4th edition of Playboy’s Host and Bar Book. I wouldn’t have considered adding lime juice to a dry martini, but the result isn’t bad at all.
There are a jillion recipes in this book, but also a lot of old-school party hosting rules and advice. Like, it goes into the right kind of ice and explores a wide range of glassware options. Sadly, despite being a Playboy publication, no nudes.
I got my semi-annual round of golf in the other weekend. I am not a good golfer.
There was a time in my early 30’s that I played enough to get okay for a casual golfer. Now, I get out there to hang with my golfing friends and enjoy some cocktails at a country club that would never have me as a member.
I’ll check back in after the winter round. I can do better than 115.

I lost my wallet on Father’s Day. I 100% blame it on going to a little too hard and ignoring the age-old adage, “don’t put anything on the roof of your car that you’re not willing to lose”. I somehow got my phone back in the car, but the wallet (and my vaccine card!) are gone. I held out hope for a week or two that maybe a good samaritan would drop it in a mailbox, but that didn’t happen.
I went back to the source, Rider Boot, a local leather guy(??) here in RVA. I traded some emails with Ron, commiserated over the loss, and talked through a replacement. It’s not 100% the same, but damn if he doesn’t make nice stuff.
I’ve already promised myself to never ever ever ever ever ever put my wallet on the roof of my car again.
Broke the seal on firepit season last night.
