Martin Ansin – Conan the Barbarian

Mondo is doing a pre-sale of some posters for pickup at ComiCon. I’m going to be there next week (3rd time!) so I snagged a copy of this Conan poster by Martin Ansin. I’m not sure why, but I’m a big fan of Conan in general. I’ve enjoyed the movies and I *loved* the comics as a kid. Weird.

“Show Yourself” print by Amar Stewart

I’m a dork for the MF Doom imagery. That mask is such a great idea even if his last couple of releases haven’t been so great. This “Show Yourself” print by Amar Stewart looks great. I’ve already got my quota of MF Doom art at home otherwise I’d be all on this thing.

Paul Thomas Anderson movie posters

Hoo Boy. Mondo asked Aaron Horkey to curate a movie poster series based on the films of Paul Thomas Anderson. It’s an impressive list of artists and the work is top-notch. The Horkey is especially good. He modeled it on vintage stock certificates and it’s just outstanding.

Mondo being Mondo, the onsale for these is going to be a pain in the ass and it will likely take a deep pocket and a substantial amount of luck to get them. I’m personally most interested in the “Boogie Nights” poster by Rockin’ Jelly Bean (NSFW there, btw). I’ve been a fan for years but have never had the stones to actually buy a print of his. The subject matter of his work isn’t something I could get clearance to hang at my house. My odds are slightly better since this is a poster for a movie that Michelle and I both enjoy. We’ll see, I guess.

Dead Astronaut Gangsta from 3A

Killer teaser image from 3A.

2 strikes against me getting it: 1) it’s probably 12″ and those tend to cost more than I’m willing to spend and 2) that little light inside the helmet (which is awesome-looking) will make definitely move it out of my price range.

Cool to look at, though.

Oversized Deth Sun

Via OMG Posters are prints available from Telegraph Gallery’s “Galaxy” show, including this one from a fave of mine, Deth P. Sun.

DETH_1024x1024

I’ve got way too many 18″x24″ prints in the file at home to buy this one, unfortunately. I do enjoy seeing new work from Sun and I bet it would be neat to see it at this size. Everything I’ve seen from him has been smaller “Tiny Showcase”-sized.

new Jay Ryan prints

Jay Ryan’s site, The Bird Machine, recently got a redesign and today has some new prints on offer. Like always, they’re inexpensive and look sharp. I poked around in his store a bit and happened up this monoprint that I especially liked:

Sometimes those monoprints get too dark or inked up to make any kind of sense. This one works well thanks to all of the light colors.

The other cool thing I saw in his store is that he still has some 2013 subscriptions available. $850 is a big damn ticket for posters but you’re guaranteed one of everything The Bird Machine publishes as well as some cool members-only exclusive editions. I bought one back in 2007 and it was great. More posters than I probably wanted but it was a cool thing to get.

Little Art Wall

Little-Art-Wall

In an effort to maximize the amount of art per square foot on my walls I dedicated a hallway to small-scale art. It’s coming along slowly but surely. Artists so far from left-to-right: Joey Beason and Michael Eades, Phineas X. Jones, Marq Spusta, Emek, Brandon Knowlden, Danijel Zezelj, Luke Chueh, Jay Ryan, Phil Barbato, Ronnie Brown and Jordan Crane.

Taxidunnys

Clever. Very clever. The extent that people push the munny/dunny platform is impressive.

M. Clancey will have these customs for sale soon in his store. I especially like the parrot.

Trooper Lotus

There has been a glut of Stormtrooper-headed vinyls lately and some don’t look so good. I think this one works because the rest of the sculpt is so good. You can’t just stick a cool head on a lump and call it cool. You just can’t.
