Tuesday tennis

A little more cardio in the mix tonight, and then I stuck around and hit balls for a little bit after.

I broke out my new shoes, too. I need to adjust the lacing, I caught some hotspots, but otherwise they were solid.

I couldn’t resist the Japan 2020 Olympic edition, even though goddamn COVID postponed the Olympics.

Playing a lot of Breath of the Wild

I’ve never been a Zelda guy, but I bought this damn game 3 years ago and I played it for about 2 hours.

It’s a massive, open world and you get a bare minimum of instruction at the beginning.

Maybe it’s the pandemic, but I picked this up last month and I’ve been playing it like crazy. Now that I have some comfort with the combat and quest systems I’m really enjoying it.

The broader plan is to establish some Video Game Habits so I can get one of those new Xboxes for Christmas. We’ll see, but for now I’m getting it Zelda-style.

I actually got on that skeleton horse up there, but it kicked me off as I was grabbing my phone for a picture. 🤷🏽

Golf On Mars

Holy Smokes! There is a sequel to Desert Golfing!

Probably my all-time most-played iOS game was Desert Golfing. I’m sure I’ve mentioned it.

The sequel is Golf On Mars and I’d like to apologize in advance to all of the other things I was doing in my spare time.

I’m only a few holes in, but it looks like there have been some changes to the physics in the game, as well as to some of the hole configurations. I love it already, obvs.

Tuesday Tennis clinic

It’s an hour-long “cardio tennis” clinic that I’ve been taking. It’s a lot of running around and some light tennis instruction.

I really need more on the teaching end of that scale, but I like the folks there so I keep at it.

Solid fire last night

We got one of those Solo Stoves this summer and it’s been great. We’ve never been a sit-outside-couple, but this year has forced our hand and we’re making the best of it (with a frivolous internet fire pit).

It was a big Wednesday

Had a fun doubles tennis session with some of the guys. The calorie counts are a lot lower now that it isn’t 96 degrees outside, and I am a-ok with that. Turns out I feel a lot better afterward, too.

And then it was podcast recording. I rolled with a Pink Jimmy in a pint glass. It’s all about efficiency. (A Pink Jimmy is just vodka & cranberry, but the story about why I like them is why I call it that.)

One of those weekends

We get a handful of these perfect weekends here in Richmond. Warm in the sun, cool in the shade, low-low humidity and a hint of a breeze.

Really delightful.

We took the opportunity to try eating at a restaurant patio and came away relieved. 6’-10’ between tables, all staff masked up, and minimal shared surfaces (glasses and flatware and whatnot).

This kind of thing is only possible when the weather’s nice so I’m glad we got it in before things get gray.

My first “TNT” Thursday was a personally humid affair

I continued my headlong adventure back into tennis last night. At my pool there is a Thursday night men’s pickup tennis game. They call it “TNT”, which is maybe “Thursday Night Tennis”? It’s supposed to be casual and everyone brings beers to share at the end. There were only four of us there last night so we set up to play a couple of doubles sets. I actually made some shots and I had some first-serve success, which was nice.

After a while a 5th guy showed up so we started rotating a person out after every game. It was hot and I was sweating hard (as I’m still pretty fat and way out of shape), and I mean sweating such that I left some puddles under then bench after my turn to rotate out.

And then one of the guys left so the four of us remaining decided to play a set. At this point I’ve been playing for over two hours and I’m just soaked with sweat. It’s really gross. I’m leaving trails of sweat drops on the court. And then I see that I’ve left a wet footprint on the court which could be dangerous if one of us were to slip on it. I looked around to what I stepped in but, to my dismay, discovered that the footprints were coming from sweat leaking out of the tops of my shoes.

When I said gross, I meant gross.

I’m still having a great time playing. It’s fun and I’m getting a little better the more I go.
